38 Horses Stay at Les Vieilles Forges Campsite in Brittany

We recently enjoyed one of the most memorable visits ever hosted at Les Vieilles Forges: a group of riders travelling through Brittany with 38 horses, who stayed with us for two separate nights.

Preparing for such a large equestrian group took plenty of organisation. We created a quiet, shaded resting area beside the woodland, with space for the horses to settle, along with hay and water throughout the area. The trees provided welcome shelter, and it was wonderful to see the horses calmly eating and resting after their journey.

A warm welcome for the riders

While the horses rested nearby, the riders relaxed at the campsite and enjoyed a friendly communal evening. Long tables were arranged beneath the Randocheval22 canopy, where everyone gathered for food, conversation and a barbecue.

Our little honesty stall was also available, with locally grown produce and bunches of lavender adding to the relaxed countryside atmosphere.

Exploring Brittany on horseback

The group was connected with ACECA – Randocheval22, which supports horse riders exploring the Côtes-d’Armor through marked routes, practical information and downloadable riding trails.

Their visit showed how well Les Vieilles Forges can work as a peaceful overnight stop for riders and horses travelling through Brittany.

Hosting 38 horses over two separate nights was certainly an experience to remember. We hope to welcome more riding clubs, equestrian groups and trail riders to Les Vieilles Forges in the future.

Whether travelling on horseback, by bicycle, on foot, with a tent or in a campervan, our campsite offers a peaceful base surrounded by nature in the heart of Brittany.
