A Place with a Past: The History of Our Campsite

Long before it became a place to pitch tents and toast marshmallows, this land was part of a quiet rural hamlet on the edge of the historic Forêt de Coat-an-Noz. For centuries, local families farmed and foraged here, living in rhythm with the land and the seasons. Old walking paths through the woods were once used by shepherds, foragers, and even smugglers navigating the borderlands of Brittany. Some of the dry stone walls you’ll see around the campsite date back over 150 years, built by hand using granite from the surrounding hills. And if you wander a little off the beaten track, you might stumble upon the moss-covered ruins of an old bread oven — a reminder of the communal ways of rural life. The site itself lay mostly untouched for decades until it was lovingly revived as a campsite, keeping the natural beauty intact while adding just enough comfort to welcome modern travellers. We’ve kept things simple and sustainable, in homage to those who lived lightly on this land before us.
